Dear Editor,

My daughter, and four other members of her track team, have advanced at the State Regionals and are scheduled to compete at the Junior Olympics at the end of July. Throughout the entire season, Mr. Williams has never met with these exceptional young people to recognize them for their hard work and for their outstanding performances at the track meets. They will compete in California, representing JCPAL with much pride and class, yet no word of appreciation or support from Mr. Williams.

We are so proud of our children, and we are excited about them traveling thousands of miles to compete at such a great event, but unfortunately, some of us cannot afford the travel expenses. We have expressed our concerns to Mr. Franklin and tried to convince him to finance all or part of the trip for these kids. After chasing him for several days, Mr. Williams responded with an abrupt “No!” Apparently, JCPAL does not have enough funds available to pay for 5 children. These kids are expected to pay for their own trip to California, with no support from the organization they represent.

We, the parents, are not giving up! We are a diligent group and will do whatever is necessary to make sure that we are there for our kids, even when the JCPAL is not! We will make certain they get their moment to shine! After all, they have earned it.

Good Luck, Kids! We promise we won’t abandon you.

Nancy Perry
