Smoking a joint: Still illegal
On July 3 around 1:09 a.m., a Hoboken police officer was walking through Pier A Park at 101 Sinatra Drive when – according to a police report – he noticed a man sitting on a park bench with two others in close proximity. He then noticed the sitting man light what appeared to be a cigarette. But as the officer walked closer, he smelled marijuana, according to a police report.
The officer identified himself and showed his badge. According to police, Luis Pena, 27, of Jersey City, allegedly dropped a marijuana cigarette onto the bench. The officer picked it up.
Pena was arrested for possession of 50 grams or less of marijuana, and the identities of the two other men were recorded by police, according to the report.

This past Tuesday around 7:45 p.m., a Hoboken Parking Utility Worker called police alleging that a woman spat on him.
According to a police report, the worker said that while he was reading the meters near First Street and Park Avenue, a Union City woman who received a summons came over and “was visibly upset.”
The worker told police that he “explained that he could not do anything once the summons is issued and directed her to the local Municipal Court if she would like to contest the summons,” according to the police report.
The worker told police that the woman then allegedly spat on him. She was arrested for harassment.
Allegedly kicked in door
Eugene Ortiz, 24, of Marshall Drive was arrested on Monday and charged with defiant trespass, according to a police report.
According to the report, police responded to a report of a man acting disorderly. They found Ortiz in the hallway of a different building on Marshall Drive than the one in which he lives. Police said that Ortiz said to them, “That [expletive] girl has my stuff,” but when an officer asked for the girl’s name and apartment number, Ortiz said, “I’m not talking.”
At that point, according to the report, Ortiz allegedly kicked in an apartment door.
Ortiz was arrested and brought to police headquarters. Police said he had two warrants out for him from Jersey City.
He made three phone calls but could not contact someone for bail, according to the police, so he was taken to the county jail in Kearny.
Wet and wild
Residents of a building on upper Jefferson Street called police on Friday around 8 p.m. to complain that a man was allegedly having sex with a woman in the building's pool, while a female acquaintance of theirs watched. A witness told police that the man was intoxicated and was allegedly taking his clothes off, according to the police report.
When police arrived, building officials had escorted the man out of the pool area. Police tried to talk to the man, but he was busy on his cell phone and said, “Wait one minute,” according to the police report. Police said that when they asked him to get off the phone, he allegedly started yelling, cursing, and causing a disturbance.
The man, who will turn 23 next week, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Police said that at police headquarters, the man was found to have in his bookbag a 2-liter bottle of Jack Daniels that was almost empty.
The man’s brother, a Jersey City resident, came to get him.
According to the police report, “As [he] was exiting Police Headquarters he apologized to everyone and said ‘I’m sorry I am a stupid drunk [four-letter word].’ ”
