RACING – According to Maria O’Connell more than 400 runners and walkers registered for the O’Connell’s Run to Cure Cystic Fibrosis. The race was held on Saturday, Sept. 10 in Union City. The run featured a division of the Union City Police Department. The winner of the race was Alan Wells, age 48, who completed the five-mile race in 15 minutes and 4 seconds, at an approximate pace of 4 minutes and 52 seconds per mile. Residents of Bayonne, Hoboken, Jersey City, New York City, North Bergen, Weehawken, West New York, and surrounding communities participated.

WNY hosts back-to-school events

Memorial High School in West New York will host a freshman parents’ night on Thursday Sept. 22 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. A college fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 8 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. An open house will be held Oct. 20, and parents’ night on Nov. 22.

The middle school and elementary schools are also hosting many back-to-school nights this month.

Two Union City events over the weekend

The eighth Annual Union City Arts and Crafts and Music Festival was to be held on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Ellsworth Park, New York Avenue and 24th Street. Expect food vendors, activities for children, live music and performances. Admission is free.
